The Montessori method stresses the
most sensitive periods of childhood with particular emphasis on the first six years. A sensitive period is defined
as a time when a child has the greatest capacity for a particular learning. These periods are transitory and serve
the purpose of helping a child acquire certain functions or determined characteristics. When this aim is
accomplished, the special sensibility dies away and is often replaced by another, which is completely different.
